Forgotten World Motel

Centrally located in Taumarunui, the Forgotten World Motel is the ideal base for your Forgotten World adventure. We offer 15 comfortable ensuite rooms suitable for solo travellers, couples and families, including a fully accessible wheelchair unit. The motel is within easy walking distance of the town's cafés, restaurants and shops and just 5 minutes from one of New Zealand's must-play golf courses, the Tarrangower, Taumarunui.

The motel is well situated for wider exploration of the Ruapehu region including Mount Ruapehu and the Whakapapa ski fields (New Zealand's largest ski area) and the Sky Waka Gondola (45 minutes) and Lake Taupō (1.25 hours). Other attractions include walking the Tongariro Crossing, exploring the Tongariro National Park, cycling the Timber Trail, canoeing the Whanganui River or enjoying a round of golf at the popular Tarrangower course in Taumarunui.

Whangamomona Hotel

The old township of Whangamomona is New Zealand's only self-proclaimed Republic and a truly unique destination. The Whangamomona Hotel is one of the country's most iconic and historic hotels and the embodiment of the community's rich and quirky history. Stay in the original hotel (17 rooms - a mix of twin singles and doubles), the extensively renovated Bridge House or Butcher Shop or in one of the new luxury ensuite lodges. Enjoy drinks at the bar and a wholesome dinner surrounded by historical and local memorabilia. Built in 1911, the Whangamomona Hotel has become a historical icon. Extensively refurbished in the last 5 years, it now offers a unique experience in a special part of New Zealand. It is one of the country's most remote hotels.

Completed in December 2017, the Whangamomona Lodge offers a more modern experience in Whangamōmona. Not since 1962 has a new project been undertaken in the village.
