The old township of Whangamomona is New Zealand's only self-proclaimed Republic and a truly unique destination. The Whangamomona Hotel is one of the country's most iconic and historic hotels and the embodiment of the community's rich and quirky history. Stay in the original hotel (17 rooms - a mix of twin singles and doubles), the extensively renovated Bridge House or Butcher Shop or in one of the new luxury ensuite lodges. Enjoy drinks at the bar and a wholesome dinner surrounded by historical and local memorabilia. Please note the hotel has shared facilities.
Built in 1911, the Whangamomona Hotel has become a historical icon. Extensively refurbished in the last 5 years, it now offers a unique experience in a special part of New Zealand. It is one of the country's most remote hotels.
Completed in December 2017, the Whangamomona Lodge offers a more modern experience in Whangamōmona. Not since 1962 has a new project been undertaken in the village.
